Does your computer have VGA and your television have S-Video or RCA?

If your computer does not have an S-Video port, then you might want to consider purchasing a VGA To TV Converter. These devices plug into your computer's monitor port and convert the VGA signal to a signal compatible with your television. This is not an optimal setup. Many users of this kind of device report display problems, especially flicker, but if that's not a big deal to you, you can find a large selection of VGA To TV (aka PC To TV) Converters on the web.

  • Some PC To TV Converters also support other kinds of ports besides VGA. If you have an older Macintosh, you may want to find one that has a Macintosh monitor adaptor.
  • Make sure you purchase a device that works in your country. There are several types of television signals including NTSC, SECAM, and PAL. Televisions in the United States use NTSC.

Follow these steps to connect your computer to your television:
  1. Plug one end of the VGA cable into the VGA port on your computer.
  2. Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA port on the VGA To TV Converter.
  3. If your VGA To TV Converter has a VGA out port, you can plug your computer monitor into it.

  5. Plug the other end of the S-Video or RCA Video (yellow) cable into your television. That takes care of getting video from your computer to your television. To get audio from your computer to your television follow the next three steps.
